Coins for sale from Antiquity to the Dark Ages and Medieval periods. Ancient Coins represent, on the most part, beautiful works of art that put many of our modern coins to shame. Not only are they visually appealing, but they are important historical artifacts giving the archaeologist and scholar valuable information about ancient cultures and rulers. In the days before television and mass media, coins were an ideal way for an Emperor or King to boast his achievements / issue propaganda / bolster patriotism and this is evident on many examples and makes them all the more fascinating. In addition, unlike modern machine made (or 'milled') examples, ancient coins were hand struck and the dies hand made. This means that ancient coins are unique works of art, with no two exactly the same.
